Visitas y Apariciones INGLÉS
Visits and Apparitions
Alfonso Suárez Anexo (2017)
In 1987, Alfonso Suárez began a performance which has not yet ended, and which he does sporadically. Today, his work is still observed referentially and superficially as a performance piece which disrupted the conventional national art contests. Visitas y apariciones (Visits and Apparitions) set a milestone in the history of Colombian art, and at one of its main evaluation points: The Artists’ National Salon. The work is centered around the Venezuelan saint and doctor José Gregorio Hernández (1864-1919), a character who has been linked to popular religious rituals, because he is considered a doer of miracles for sick people, who recover their health after prayers devoted to him, and testimonies to his supernatural visits and apparitions to the convalescing.
Visitas y apariciones will be shown from the 18th of May to the 17th of June 2017, in the annex in Espacio el Dorado.
