María Leguízamo

Since a revealing encounter in 2011, María Leguizamo has dedicated her work to the investigation of la potencia de la minucia (the power of the trifle), the power of things that due to their fragile and hardly visible aspects, have the capacity of generating definitive transformations that go unnoticed by the monumental eye, the guardians of order. Assuming the permanent search of that which seems irrelevant, María practices exercises of erosion and signaling that pretend to soften solid and pre-established ideas about how the world works. María studied plastic arts in the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (Bogotá 2012) and in 2015 she was given the Fullbright MinCultura scholarship for artists, with which she moved to Philadelphia, supported by another scholarship of the Tyler School of Arts, Temple University to make an MFA in Sculpture (2017). When she finalized the program, she taught a a class of Performance Art & Sculpture por undergrads in the same university. María is a band member of Da Peeblz, a punk-pop-rock band that makes feminist music for kids, functioning in Philadelphia, Providence, New York, Mexico city and Bogotá. Currently she makes part of the second stage of Nuevos Nombres (new names) in the MAMU, Museum of el Banco de la República with her project Intemperie (2017-2018). Her work has been shown in Temple Contemporary, The Woodmere Art Museum and ICEBOX-Crane Arts in Philadelphia; The Koppel Project in London; Artecamara Chapinero and El Claustro San Agustín in Bogotá.
