Barranquilla, Colombia (1955) Exhibit in Espacio el Dorado: Nueve Caligramas

She fulfilled her studies in art in the Escuela de Bellas Artes of the Universidad del Atlántico in Barranquilla, Colombia. In the beginning of the 1980’s, she started her work based on the use and interpretation of language seen as conceptual art. Her photographs show the exploration and possibilities in which her name, ROSA, is the central subject of her work. These pictures are considered self portraits, not only because she uses her name as a reference, but because at the same time, she uses her body as a representation of herself. Her series are the result of interventions made on photographs, where her physiognomy, her body and her hands are present and reflect a constant inquiry about the relationship between her individuality and the word that represents her whilst searching for the visual definition of the semantics about these compositions that get inscripted in the context of conceptual art in Colombia. Her work has been exhibited in the Salón Arturo y Rebeca Ravinovich, Salón Atenas of the Museum of Modern Art in Bogotá and Cartagena, Centro Colombo Americano of Barranquilla and recently, her work made part of the exhibit Radical Women: Latin American Art 1960 – 1985 in the Hammer Museum, within others.
